A Two-Week Dream Getaway: 14-Day Caribbean Cruise on Norwegian Sky

This amazing 14-day cruise was part of our big spring adventure – a 40-day trip across 3 continents, 19 countries, and countless unforgettable destinations.

We flew to the DR from Frankfurt, cruised in the Caribbean, then flew to NYC, on to Iceland, the Faroe Islands, and eventually back to Germany through Denmark.

The Ship: Inside Cabins

Inside Cabin on Norwegian Sky

While Norwegian Sky is not the biggest ship out there, it is packed with character and charm. That is why we opted for Norwegian Sky, that and, of course, the itinerary – 14 days and 14 different ports of call. How exciting!

We went for the cheapest cabin option – sailaway inside, as we were going to be out exploring the islands the whole day. And we would spend the rest of the time on deck, either in the theater, library, or lounge areas.

We were lucky with our cabin: we got one on the 10th floor aft, and it was a very quiet and comfy one. Inside cabins are cozy and well-designed to make the most of the space.

Despite not having a window, the rooms feel spacious enough, with comfy beds, storage for days, and a compact but convenient bathroom.

Again, if you, like us, are going to be out most of the day, inside cabins are your best bet. Comfy options that will not break the bank. So, you can spend the money on shore excursions, souvenirs, or other fun activities onboard.

And let’s be honest, with so much to do both on the ship and at each port of call, you will not be spending a lot of time in your cabin anyway!

Deck Fun

The swimming pool area is where people gather, and it is the perfect spot to meet other travelers, enjoy poolside games, or simply chill with a book and a tropical cocktail.

They organize dance parties at the pool area, and there are live DJ sets, keeping the energy high.

Norwegian Sky also offers several hot tubs that are great for stargazing or relaxing after a day of exploring. You can also relax in Spinnaker Lounge with nice background music.

The fitness center Pulse is not big but well-equipped. If you time it right, you can exercise without many people around; say early in the morning or afternoon.

Outside on deck 12, you will find a basketball court, table tennis, and other games to keep you fit and entertained.

Honest review of Dining Options on Norwegian Sky

Norwegian Sky’s restaurants offer enough variety to keep your taste buds engaged for the entire two weeks.

The main dining rooms The Palace and Crossings serve up classic favorites with a touch of Caribbean flair, while specialty restaurants like Cagney’s Steakhouse, the Italian eatery La Cucina, and Le Bistro are perfect for a splurge night.

And if you just need a quick snack or a midnight bite, there is always a buffet with a rotating variety of international and Caribbean-inspired dishes.

The Freestyle Dining concept means there is no strict dress code, which makes for a more relaxed dining experience.

Plus, you can eat at any time, which is perfect for those long, lazy days on the beach when you lose track of time. Or when you are out exploring a new island for the whole day.

There is nothing better than delicious snacks and drinks when you go back onboard after a hot and long day of sightseeing!

St. Maarten is divided into a Dutch and French side, each with its own charm. The Dutch side is vibrant and bustling with duty-free shops, while the French side feels a bit more laid-back and chicer.

Orient Bay on the French side is a beautiful beach with a more European vibe, and you will find beachside cafes serving delicious pastries and French cuisine.

Do not miss Maho Beach, where planes land dramatically close to the sand—it is a thrill to watch!

Antigua: 365 Beaches and Colonial Charm

This gorgeous island famously boasts “a beach for every day of the year,” and while we could not see them all, we enjoyed the leisurely afternoon on Jolly Beach suntanning and swimming in the gentle waves.

History buffs should check out Nelson’s Dockyard, a charming, restored colonial site with shops, cafes, and impressive views.

Tortola, British Virgin Islands

Tortola, the largest of the British Virgin Islands, is a Caribbean gem known for its pristine beaches, lush hills, and vibrant sailing culture.

We had a short day at the port of Road Town, Tortola. And to make matters worse, our shore excursion did not go as planned. Long story short, we had paid for a tour around the island to see a couple of major highlights. But we were driven to a nearby beach instead.

NCL handled our complaints well, and we got our refunds immediately, but it still felt like a missed opportunity to capture the beauty of this stunning island. Or it was a sign to visit the islands in the future!
