Day 1-2: Muscat

Day 3-5: Wadi Tiwi, Wadi Shab, and Bimmah Sinkhole

The next stops in our 12-day itinerary of Oman offer gorgeous vistas in beautiful Omani wadis.

Head to Bimmah Sinkhole for a refreshing swim

On your drive to Tiwi make a stop at Bimmah Sinkhole Park. Bimmah Sinkhole is a natural limestone crater filled with shimmering blue-green water.

Take a dip in the sinkhole’s cool waters, surrounded by lush greenery, creating a peaceful and rejuvenating experience.

Drive to Wadi Tiwi and explore the lush greenery

Depart Muscat and embark on a scenic drive to Wadi Tiwi. Immerse yourself in the emerald-green oasis surrounded by towering cliffs and palm trees.

Take a leisurely walk along the wadi, appreciating the serene beauty of nature.

Visit Wadi Shab for hiking and swimming in its turquoise pools

Continue your wadi-hopping adventure by heading to Wadi Shab. Trek through the breathtaking canyon, passing through date plantations and small villages.

Reach the hidden cave with a turquoise pool, offering an excellent opportunity for a refreshing swim. The hike is about 45-50 minutes long and you will be rewarded with amazing views.

Top tip: Start early in the morning to beat the crowds. We were the first to take the boat to the other side at 7 am. We enjoyed the hike and swam in all three stunning pools all the while just the two of us.

Explore the coastal town of Qalhat and Bibi Maryam’s tomb

On your way to Sur, make a stop at the historical coastal town of Qalhat. Visit Bibi Maryam’s tomb, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, and learn about the rich history of this ancient trading port.

Overnight in Tiwi or Sur

Choose to spend the night in either Tiwi or Sur, enjoying the coastal ambiance and reflecting on the natural wonders you have encountered. We opted for Tiwi as an overnight option.  

Day 6: Sur, Al Hadd, and Turtle Reserve at Ras Al Jinz

Explore Sur

Begin your day exploring Sur, a coastal town with a rich maritime history. Visit the Sur Maritime Museum and gain insights into the traditional Omani maritime lifestyle.

Witness the skillful craftsmanship of dhows at the dhow factory, a testament to Oman’s seafaring heritage.

Head to Al Hadd for a relaxing beach day

Relax on the sandy shores of Al Hadd, a picturesque fishing village known for its tranquil beaches.

Enjoy the peaceful atmosphere and perhaps engage in some water activities or simply unwind by the turquoise waters.

You can book a dolphin-watching and snorkeling tour. We had no luck with dolphin spotting but enjoyed snorkeling immensely.

Day 9-11: Nizwa and Surroundings

Head to Jabrin Castle for a glimpse into Omani history

Visit Jabrin Castle, a well-preserved fortress showcasing Omani architecture and historical artifacts. Explore the castle’s rooms, each telling a story of the country’s past, and enjoy panoramic views from its towers.

Explore the ancient village of Al Hamra

Discover the charm of Al Hamra, an ancient village with well-preserved mud-brick houses.

Visit the Bait Al Safah Museum, providing insights into the traditional Omani way of life. Wander through the narrow alleyways and appreciate the architectural beauty of the old structures.
