Cape Town is pure magic and the most beautiful city we visited in 2024. With jaw-dropping landscapes, incredible food, and wildlife, there is something for everyone. Here is our list of 10 must-dos you cannot miss in amazing Cape Town.
From the iconic Table Mountain views to long stretches of white and golden sand beaches, the Mother City inspires its visitors.
And if you are more into a city vibe, you can always head to the famous V&A Waterfront or explore the colorful Bo-Kaap neighborhood.
Whatever you decide to do, here are the 10 must-dos in Cape Town to inspire you.
Cape of Good Hope

This rugged cape is a must-see. Walk along the cliffs and enjoy the sweeping ocean views, where it feels like you are at the world’s edge.
A short hike will take you to the old lighthouse with panoramic views of the Atlantic and Indian Oceans. Look out for ostriches and antelope roaming nearby. This is part of a nature reserve.
Alternatively, drive to Cape Point and hike to the Cape of Good Hope. The hike takes about 30 mins (one way) and is well worth it! The views and Diaz Beach are just breathtaking!

The dramatic cliffs and crashing waves make it a dream for nature lovers and photographers alike.
Travel Tip: Wear comfortable shoes and bring a jacket or cardigan. It was windy when we visited in December.
\Watch out for curious baboons – they love snacks! Also, watch out for snakes, I saw two when hiking from Cape Point to Cape of Good Hope.
Best Time: Morning visits are less crowded and cooler.
Bloubergstrand Beach

Bloubergstrand Beach is a photographer’s dream! Iconic Table Mountain views, golden sand, and perfect conditions for kitesurfing.
Walk along the wide shoreline or stop by a beachfront café for a coffee while soaking in the scenery.
Locals come here often to get away from the busier city beaches. Bring a picnic basket, fly a kite, or enjoy the sound of waves. Are you into water sports? This is the place to be!
Travel Tip: Visit at sunset for postcard-worthy shots. Pack a warmer layer – it gets breezy!
Best Time: November to March (summer) for clear skies.
Chapman’s Peak Drive

One of the world’s most scenic coastal drives! Twisting roads, cliffside views, and epic photo stops await.
Stop at one of the many viewpoints for sweeping ocean vistas. It is also a great way to explore nearby towns like Hout Bay and Noordhoek.
For adventurers, combine this drive with a hike or a stop at a beach.
Travel Tip: Stop at the viewpoints for photos. Drive slowly to soak it all in!
Best Time: Late afternoon for golden hour views.
Boulders Beach

Home to adorable African penguins! Seeing penguins in their natural habitat is such an unbelievable experience. Stroll along wooden boardwalks to get up close to these cuties.
The giant granite boulders here create calm, turquoise waters perfect for swimming.
Families love this spot for its sheltered bays, and kids will adore spotting penguins waddling around.
It is also an excellent spot for snorkeling on calm days. If you have time, explore the nearby Simon’s Town, a quaint seaside village with plenty of charm.

Travel Tip: Swim in the sheltered bay near the penguins! Let’s be honest! Nothing can beat this experience!
Best Time: If you are visiting in the summer, go to Boulders Beach on a weekday to avoid crowds and find parking more easily.
Signal Hill Sunset

Sunsets here are magical. Pack a picnic, bring a blanket, and watch the city lights sparkle as the sun dips below the horizon.
Signal Hill offers panoramic views of the city, Table Bay, and Robben Island. It is a favorite for locals and visitors, especially those who love stargazing after sunset.
Travel Tip: Arrive early to secure a spot! This is a popular local hangout.
Best Time: Any clear evening, but summer evenings are unbeatable.

Best Time: Afternoons for shopping; evenings for the lively atmosphere.
Table Mountain

Take the cable car or hike to the top for panoramic views of Cape Town, the ocean, and Robben Island.
The flat-topped mountain is one of the New 7 Wonders of Nature and offers unforgettable scenery.
Choose from several hiking trails that vary in difficulty, like the popular Platteklip Gorge. The weather can change quickly, so check the forecast before heading up.
Travel Tip: Book cable car tickets online to skip the queue. Wear layers – it gets chilly up there!
Best Time: Early morning or late afternoon to avoid crowds.
Bo-Kaap
This colorful neighborhood is rich in culture and history. It is a true celebration of heritage. Every house is painted in bright colors, making it one of the most photographed spots in Cape Town.
Wander the vibrant streets and try Cape Malay cuisine. Learn about the history of the Cape Malay community at the Bo-Kaap Museum.
Travel Tip: Visit the Bo-Kaap Museum to learn about its heritage. Respect the locals – it is a residential area.
Best Time: Morning for better light for photos.
Taste Cape Town

Cape Town is a paradise for foodies. Try a Gatsby sandwich (perfect for sharing), Cape Malay curries, or freshly caught seafood.
Cape Town was crowned World’s Best Food City in the 2024 Condé Nast Traveller Readers’ Choice Awards.
For wine lovers, the city is a gateway to world-class vineyards just a short drive away. From street food to fine dining, there is no shortage of delicious options. Foodies, this city will steal your heart!
